Comic book movie stars are being scooped up at an alarming rate for other fantasy/sci-fi franchises, and Black Mirror is the latest series to dabble in the superhero acting pool. The series did have an episode with Black Panther star Letitia Wright, but now they’re expanding their MCU ties. According to Deadline, Captain America: Civil War and Avengers: Infinity War star Anthony Mackie and Aquaman villain Yahya Abdul-Mateen II have been cast in the upcoming fifth season of Netflix’s sci-fi series Black Mirror. Mackie and Abdul-Mateen II already have ties with the streaming giant, so it makes sense for them to double down on their work with Netflix. Abdul-Mateen II played a villain in the canceled Netflix series The Get Down, and Mackie has taken lead duties for the new season of Altered Carbon.
The details surrounding Mackie and Abdul-Mateen II’s casting have been kept under wraps. Netflix pushed back the premiere of Black Mirror season 5 due to the exhausting and tedious work that was put into the “choose your path” episode “Bandersnatch.” Both actors have seen their careers ascend to new heights since joining the collection of superhero actors, and Abdul-Mateen II is currently in talks to star in Jordan Peele’s Candyman remake.
