Apparently determined to defeat President Muhammadu Buhari in the 2019 presidential election, Senate president Bukola Saraki; presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Atiku Abubakar; and the national chairman of the PDP, Prince Uche Secondus, are reportedly leading a host of other chieftains of the opposition party in a meeting in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, to fine-tune their campaign strategy ahead of the November 18 commencement date. The Punch reports that the special strategy session, which started on Thursday, October 25, in the Middle East city, is meant to put finishing touches to some of the PDP’s plans aimed at defeating Buhari at the next poll. We gathered that sources close to the meeting disclosed that, Atiku is also using the forum to perfect his comprehensive policy document, detailing how he intends to improve Nigeria.

– Amosun It was learnt that the PDP presidential candidate’s roadmap for Nigeria’s development would be unveiled to Nigerians in the next few weeks. According to the newspaper, Atiku, who had been in Dubai earlier, was joined by Saraki, Secondus and a host of other PDP chieftains on Wednesday night, October 24. It was also gathered that Atiku’s running mate and former governor of Anambra state, Peter Obi, was also attending the meeting. The director-general of the Atiku campaign organisation, Gbenga Daniel, who is a former governor of Ogun state, is also reported to be present at the meeting, according to party stalwarts who spoke under the condition of anonymity. A top source in the PDP was quoted to have said that the meeting was important for the party to fine-tune its strategy ahead of electioneering. “All of them, including Atiku, Saraki, Obi and Daniel are meeting in Dubai now; the essence is to strategise ahead of the campaign,” the source said. However, it was not clear how long in terms of the number of days the strategy session would last but it was learnt that Saraki, Atiku, Secondus and other leaders in the meeting were determined to perfect most of their plans ahead of the presidential campaign scheduled to begin on November 18. According to INEC’s timetable and schedule of activities issued by the commission, campaigns for presidential and National Assembly elections will commence on November 18, while campaigns for governorship and state assembly elections will start on December 1. Confirming the meeting in Dubai, the spokesperson for the Atiku campaign organisation, Segun Sowunmi, said there was a need for Atiku to meet with critical stakeholders ahead of the presidential, governorship and other campaigns scheduled to begin soon.

2019 Presidency: What Will Happen If PDP Wins Election – Amaechi

Published

on

The Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi has told Nigerians that it would be disasterous if the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, returns to power in 2029.

Amaechi said the party was “desperate and hungry for power.’’

He spoke at a Special Town Hall Meeting on Infrastructure organised by the Ministry of Information and Culture in Ibadan.

The Minister said the PDP, while in power, turned the nation to a “feeding bottle” by abandoning critical infrastructure and “ sucking” the economy for personal gains.

The minister urged Nigerians to resist the PDP by voting for Buhari and ensuring that they guarded their votes during the 2019 general elections.

Amaechi also said that the ruling party was prepared for an open debate with the PDP on the successes recorded, especially on infrastructure development.

“We are ready for the PDP candidate to confront us with what they achieved in 16 years and compare them to what we have done in just three and half years.

“We are open for the debate, our achievements on infrastructure are there to showcase,” he said.
The minister disclosed that the government was working hard to ensure the completion of Lagos-Ibadan standard gauge rail project by February 2019.

“We are working day and night on this project and we have started laying the tracks from Papalanto.

“I want to thank the people and the communities along the rail tracks for their cooperation because they have never given us trouble,” he said.

The minister also said that after completing the Lagos-Ibadan section of the project, the focus would turn to the Lagos-Kano standard gauge.

EFCC Speaks On Arrest, Prosecution Of Oshiomhole

Published

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has reacted to a suit accusing the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Adams Oshiomhole of fraud.

An Edo State-based activist, Osadalor Ochie, had filed a suit before an Abuja Federal High Court challenging the failure of EFCC to file fraud charges Oshiomhole.

Ochie, in the suit prayed the court to compel the anti-graft agency to conduct investigation into allegations of fraud against Oshiomhole while he was governor of Edo State.

The suit also seeks the arrest and prosecution of the APC National Chairman.

In view of his prayer, the court had scheduled Tuesday for hearing, after processes were served on the two parties.

However, counsels to Oshiomhole appeared in court but that of the anti-graft agency failed to show up.

Explaining why its representatives were not in court, EFCC said it did not appear in court because the plaintiff failed to serve it with the court processes.

A statement by EFCC spokesperson, Wilson Uwajaren on Wednesday reads: “Ahead of the November 19 date for the consideration of the preliminary objection by All Progressives Party National Chairman, Adams Oshiomhole, challenging the competence of the suit which seeks to compel the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, to arrest and commence criminal proceedings against him, the agency has blamed its absence at Tuesday October 23 hearing of the suit before Justice Anwuli Chikere of the Federal High Court Abuja on the failure of the plaintiff to serve the Commission with processes
